What is your opinion about the following two GPS receivers?

I take a college course, the GPS receiver requires me to purchase one. The two GPS receivers that were recommended to me are the Magellan Triton 200 and the model Garmin eTrex Venture HC. I'm not sure which is better GPS receiver. I have done some research on the two GPS receivers, and I have read good and bad reviews for them. However, I am really at a loss because I have never used a GPS before.
