Can you still remember what your life was life before you had a computer? Although it seems like computers have been around forever, they are relatively new and a large portion of the population has lived in a time when there was no pcs. However, there are some people alive today who use a computer and who have never known a time without a computer. There are even some alive who have lived far more years before the advent of the computer than they will ever live after it
While the upcoming generation will have never lived in a time when Twitter, Facebook, Ebay and Google did not exist, there has been just such a time in history. There was also a time in history that a microwave and computers did not exist too.
I can remember a time in my life when I used a typewriter to get my reports done when I was in school. Oh yes, the good ol’ typewriter. Do you remember using the white out instead of a delete button? A case could be made that the delete button has been the biggest undoing of the white out business.
Pcs are very much a part of our lives on a daily basis now. While they are designed to make our lives a lot easier and more productive, they can be the opposite if we let them.
You can tell a lot about your own self discipline by the amount of time that you spend on a computer in your free time. It may seem easy on paper to limit out use, but the amount of information out there on all kinds of subjects can be hard to resist for a lot of people. It is not bad to learn, but if it comes at the cost of doing the other things that we should be doing and getting done then it can be a bad thing. If you find yourself on your computer a bit too much, then it might be time to evaluate just where you are spending your time and how you can make necessary adjustments.
Kept within control though, computers can make our life a lot easier and more productive than ever before. From researching to writing to managing information, a pc can be a huge time and paper saver. It can also be a great way to share and stay connected with friends, family and others.
We can manage our computers and not let them control us if we make and live by a few rules. One rule you might consider is to set a limit to how much free time you spend on the computer. You could also set aside certain days/times of day that is computer time and stick to that.
It is important to take strong control with our computer time so that we can make them work for us. Pcs are constantly changing and that makes it easier for us to be connected to them non-stop. With some control, we can make sure that they are used to save us time rather than take up more time in our lives.
